Mathematics of Money and Investments (QUAN127)

This course provides a mathematical introduction into the area of finance. More specifically, it attempts to explain the math behind neoclassical theories in financial asset pricing, such as expected return and risk, present value, pricing contracts, and the Black-Scholes Formula. Mastering the contents covered in this course will help students prepare for either a graduate degree in Finance or a career in Financial Engineering.

Topics include trade-off between risk & return, optimal portfolio selection, equilibrium asset pricing models, equity valuation, and fixed-income securities. Among the main objectives of this course is understanding how security markets function, and learning how to develop investment strategies. Mastering the material covered in the course will help prepare students for both level 1 and level 2 of the CFA exam.
